Meet Marko O. Aguilar Maurer

Founder & Director

Marko is an adoptee and a youth-from-care, originally from T’koronto (also known as Toronto). His experiences within the family policing system are what formed his passion for supporting children, youth, families, and communities most impacted by it, and to create an organization that seeks to do the same.

Marko has extensive experience working in the area of “child welfare”. He has worked with organizations such as Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, The Adoption Council of Ontario, The Belonging Network (formerly Adoptive Families Association of BC), and many more.

Marko completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto with a double major in Environmental and Indigenous Studies and a minor in Human Geography. He then went on to complete a Master of Arts in Human Development, Learning, and Culture from the University of British Columbia. His master’s thesis explored queer and storytelling research approaches to reimagining care and acting in the best interest of children involved in family policing.

When Marko isn’t busy working, he enjoys going for walks with his dog in the forest and on the beach.
